Decal Printing

Decal printing on ceramic plates is a process of transferring images or designs from a special paper to a ceramic surface. There are different types of decal papers and methods of applying them, depending on the desired effect and the firing temperature. Some common types of decal papers are:

  • Digital ceramic decal paper: This paper can be printed with a laser printer and then applied to ceramic or glass products. The decals are fired in a kiln and become permanent and scratch-resistant.
  • Graffito paper: This paper is a colored underglaze transfer paper that works like a carbon copy. The paper is placed on the ceramic surface and then traced with a pencil or stylus.
  • Rice paper decals: These are underglaze decals that are designed to be used on greenware or bisqueware. They are simple to use and come in various colors and patterns. The decals are soaked in water and then applied to the ceramic surface.
  • Metallic luster decals: These are overglaze decals that are made from real precious metals, such as gold, silver, or copper. They add a shiny and elegant touch to the ceramic products.

Silkscreening Oil

Silkscreening Oil No.107 is the special medium for the pasting of the flux used in the Ceratec Gold under Flux System. The oil offers specific burn off properties required in the decoration system.

In the Ceratec Gold under Flux System the fired bright metal film is laying under a fine protective layer of glass flux. Protected by the flux the metal layer is far more resistant for example to scratches of fork and knife in the daily usage of tableware.

Storage

Silkscreening Oil No.107 should be stored at room temperature (20°C). We recommend using the material within 12 months time

Recommendations for the usage

  • For the pasting of the lead free flux F512 with special medium No.107 we re commend a mixing ratio of 100:100 parts by weight. The flux paste should be homogenized with a triple roll mill.
  • For the printing of the flux paste on top of the pre-printed bright gold, bright platinum or bright palladium paste we recommend using a 100-40 up to a 77-50 polyester screen.
  • The finished decals should be applied and fired as soon as possible. A longer storage of the decals is NOT recommended. During storage the decals might get brittle and with the heavier layer of precious metal plus a flux on top the application to the substrate will get more difficult. If the decal cannot be properly squeegeed anymore, that will negatively impact the adhesion of the fired decoration.
